The moondoggy escorted us away from the mirrored lake, underneath walls of moss, and between golden-leafed trees with nothing more than moonlight to guide us. Knight’s heavy hooves clomped beside me. He hadn’t left my side. Moka weaved over the dead leaves on the game trail, not making a sound. A small part of my brain kept me from tripping over roots and vines, while the rest chewed on everything Luna had told me. It gave me a headache.

We came to a river, which sounded much larger than the stream from before. Moka stopped at a lush patch of grass. I dropped the sword, unable to carry it a step further. Drinking the cool water, and eating a few nuts that the moondoggy had discovered, we made beds of leaves at the river’s edge. We fell asleep to the sound of gurgling waters, without a worry in the world that a hungry creature would eat us.
